Your Truth, My Truth, and the Actual Truth

Over the last few years, in the US at least, we have seen many cases where the truth is often not clear. Now I don’t want this blog to be political in nature. The reason I started this blog was to share my passion of personal growth and personal responsibility. I want to see people look at themselves and see how they can grow as a person, rather than just point out the bad things in the world that they have little control over.

In the US there is a lot of strife over politics, people hate each other simply over politics. Now there is a big difference over disagreeing over truly racist ideas and disagreeing over certain economic ideas. What I am talking about is the disagreement over what is true and factual. It has become much easier to bend the truth to fit what you believe with the use of social media. If you take any topic, lets take one hopefully less controversial like taxes.

Does higher taxes overall mean that the country will be better off, or will lower taxes mean that the country will be better off. Now again I am not here to discuss the validity of either argument. What I am here to say is if you don’t listen and understand both sides of the argument, you don’t know the actual truth or actual answer to the argument.

I have felt that one of the problems that is dividing our nation is the fact that we can’t escape politics. When your social media feed is filled with politics, when you cant look up the weather without seeing some political spin on it, you have no choice but to hide in your own political bubble. If I have strong political views one way or the other, I will natural seek out sources that will constantly tell me I’m correct, instead of seeking out ones that criticize my opinion.

When we have to align ourselves with one party or the other, we lose the ability to see the whole truth. If all of your information comes from a single news source, or from news sources that all share a common view point, you have failed to understand the whole argument. So try to listen to both sides before you make up you decision on what is the correct answer to a problem.
