The Lesson Learned From Minimalism

Minimalism is more then just having very few items to your name, it’s about not having useless items. The Minimalists say they only keep items that bring joy to their lives. If you have a million books and cant imagine being anything but sad if you got rid of them, then keep the books.

The lesson I learned from watching and reading a lot on minimalism is this; when you limit the items you own to only ones that bring you joy and happiness, then when you look around your home you are filled with joy, because you only see items you love.

I am no where near a minimalist, but I am trying to slowly progress towards becoming one. When I look around my home I see a lot of stuff that just brings me stress. I have so much I want to clean, so much that should be donated or sold. I get stressed from the clutter. The beauty of being a minimalist is that you are surround by items and stuff that makes your life better, and all the other crap has been thrown out or donated or sold.

It is so much easier to be content with life if you are constantly reminded of all the things you do have. If all the things you have are covered in other crap you don’t care about, its easier to be unhappy with your current life situation. The point of being a minimalist is not to stop caring about material goods, its about caring enough about goods to only bring ones we truly want into our home and lives.

I am certainly not trying to “convert” people to minimalism, but I don want to share some of the insight into why so many people are turning to that life style. Even if none of you want to become a minimalist, hopefully some of you will at least take this lesson and start questioning some of the items you buy, before you buy them.
