Attention is one thing everyone needs to accomplish almost anything in their life. Some of the biggest achievements take high levels of attention and dedication. 

In today’s society of quick fashion and social media our attention spans are getting smaller and smaller. If you listen to songs from only a decade ago the songs were a minute or two longer. We have such little attention for even music that we have to shorten the length of songs to keep peoples attention.

In a society where people can’t pay attention for longer than a few minutes, people who can focus on a task for many hours have a power that most don’t, and one that will do wonders for those who use it to further their goals.

Being an entrepreneur is very hard. I’m not sure I would call myself one, but to be a successful one you must put in long hours, work hard, and not lose focus of what you are trying to build. All these things require attention, and if you don’t have the ability to pay attention, then your business will fail.

Just to be able to write this article, I have to have enough attention to write a post and not get off track from my main point. If I started writing a post taking about the benefits of exercise, and ended it talking about why you should invest in REITs, people would be so confused and would not continue reading my posts.

Attention is something we can all have, but takes practice to develop. The best way to practice is to simple use it, try spending more and more time working on personal projects. Another simple exercise that you can do is mediate. Meditation forces you to focus your mind on something specific, often your breathing. This forces you to keep your mind from wandering, which will help you focus in other aspects of your life.

So, if you are trying to work towards building your dreams of being an entrepreneur, then maybe try meditating some. Even if you don’t meditate, at least be aware of your attention span and try to practice expanding it.
