Now I am not saying that if you are not a body builder you should be ashamed of yourself. I am talking to the people who may be struggling with self worth, struggling to feel accomplished, struggling to find meaning, and struggling to be productive.
For full transparency, I am no fitness nut. I have a solid dad bod going on, but I am working towards my own fitness goals. I don’t need to look like an MMA fighter, but I do have goals of being more fit. Over my short time on this earth I have learned a thing or two about personal fitness. I have been in decent shape before, and I know what it has done for my life.
When I was a more regular gym member I was overall happier with my life. I found it easier to get work done during the day, and I felt more confident in my work and my relationships. It’s not a cure all for sure, but when you start your day, or end your day with a workout, it changes your mood. You don’t have to do anything crazy, just enough so you can feel it in your muscles.
For me anytime I finished a good workout I felt like a million dollars. I felt like I could take on the world. I am working back into a routine now, and I already feel it helping me feel more excited about the day.
I know there is a movement that has been going on for a while about encouraging people to be comfortable with their body, and I agree with this. My whole philosophy is you should never be ashamed with your body now, what ever weight you are at, be comfortable and confident, but don’t settle.
Everyday people should wake up and try to find ways to improve themselves and their lives. You should go for a walk, a run, lift weights, whatever your favorite workout is, and push yourself a little further each time. This is not about making yourself loose 100 pounds, or be able to dead lift 200 pounds. Its about constantly improving yourself, so you can look back and be proud of your progress, and feel excited and confident about who you are.
If someone’s dream body style/weight is to have a rocking dad bod, AWESOME! If you constantly strive to achieve that and each day see yourself moving towards that goal, it will motivate you to progress on other aspects of your life. It might motivate you to finally start that business you have been dreaming about starting for years. It might give you the confidence to finally ask that person to dinner you have been wanting to ask out for a year.
Fitness done right will make you healthier, and stronger, but it will also grow you mental health and strength. That is what I want everyone to experience, strength in mind and body.
