The Power of the Sun

The sun is one of the most powerful and (mostly) harmless mood changers that I know of. If I am having a bad day, there is nothing more relaxing then stepping out into the sun for a little while. While you can get a sun burn, as long as you don’t sleep in the sun for hug amounts of time, going out into the sun is not going to harm you like many substances people use for mood change.

Now the sun is not something that will help someone with chronic depression, its not going to break someones substance dependency. What I am saying is, people need to get out in the sun more. Over 90% of Americans reported that they had vitamin D deficiency. This data came from the CDC. While not all vitamin D comes from sun exposure, a lot of it does.

Many people that suffer from lack of vitamin D can have very serious symptoms including: mood changes, muscle pains. bone loss, joint pain, and fatigue. Not everyone will have severe symptoms, many people might only see slight fatigue. The fact that just going out side, and eating right could drastically improve your mood and productivity means something. I know when I was a kid I spent too much time inside playing video games with friends, but I did still go outside some, because it always made me feel better.

So, next time its sunny out, and you are feeling your work start to wear you down, take the time to get some sun.
