Today’s society is more stressful and also busier then any other time in history. The grind and hustle that everyone is focused on takes a toll on our minds and body.
People focus on what more they could do to further their business, or their social media following. These people often lose their mental clarity, they find themselves trapped in a cycle of more and more work.
This trap is easy to fall into, because it can make you very productive for a short time, but then the stress starts to catch up with you. This is when people burn out. Everyone has experienced burnout at some point. Most people have experienced it as senioritis, which is when it is associated with school work.
When I find myself burning out with whatever I am working on, whether it is school or work, I take a step back and either walk around my house, or go outside. I will walk to my kitchen and get some water. I can walk around campus at school, or walk down my road a little.

Just taking a little bit of time to step away helps to clear my mind and allows my creativity to reset. I find it almost refills my “creative fuel tank”. Everyone’s mind is different, and each of us find different ways to reach our peak state of work. In my experience I have found taking a small break allows me to return more focused and keeps me from burning out as fast.
I have a bad tendency of diving head first into projects and then getting burned out very quickly, and if I am able to make myself take breaks it increases the longevity of my interest in a project.
So next time you are at your desk and are feeling burnt out, take the time to walk away for a short period. Just take 10 minutes to walk around, even if its just to the kitchen for some water. When you come back to your work, you will be more focused and feel better.
